What Is The CULL GDK?
What Is The CULL GDK |
The CULL GDK is intented to be a complete Game Development Kit, that can be used by developers to simplify the process and starting, developing and completing a PC game. The GDK can be used from inception to completion, dealing with all aspects of game creation from level design to coding. By combining the different strands of the GDK, the developer will have a tool that enables them to create anything they can imagine. |
What Can The GDK Do |
The GDK can do many things, primarily the creation, design and coding of a PC game. To achieve this task, the GDK is split into three main components. The CULL Library, the Ellil World Editor and Cull-Mo. See their respective pages for information on them. There will eventually be a collection of screen shots (from the GDK, and from related projects) showcasing the kinds of things the GDK can do. |
Why Should I Use The CULL GDK? |
The CULL GDK is designed to be
a low level wrapper system to enable developers quick develop times, while
at the same time, not restricting them in regards to the tools and methods
available to them. Many engines out there have a wealth of fancy
features, but these features stop the developer getting to the bones of the
code, restricting them if they want to go outside the box of the engine.
CULL is different in that it doesn't attempt to give developers a wealth of different features for them to use. Plug-ins will eventually be written for the GDK, but these will be used on a developers whim, rather than a necessity. It is these features (or in this case lack of them), that allows the CULL GDK to be a powerful, yet simple tool to use The GDK makes no assumptions as to what kind of game you are creating (though the Ellil World Editor favours 3D environments). It is up to you how you use the GDK. Do you use the whole package and go for CULL/Ellil integration, or do you use just part of the GDK. It is up to you. The plug-ins that will one day be written will of course have different slants, but again they will be totally optional. |
How Do I Use It? |
The CULL GDK is totally free under the terms of the Lesser General Public Library. Have a look on the licence page for more information regarding the use of the GDK. If you want to use the current released version(s), head over to the download section, or if you want the most up-to-date code, you will need to download it from the CVS server. |
How Do I Find Out More |
If you want to contact the
developer of the GDK, you have a couple of options. Head over to he
forums page to
post any comments or help requests you might be having. There is also
the option of reporting bugs, or requesting features on the main menu.
If neither of these options suites you, then go to the
contacts page, to contact the developer
directly. If you wish to contribute to the CULL GDK, then click on the Contribute icon on the main menu. The project is currently not looking for any specific contributions, but if you feel that you have something to add, please drop us a mail. |
